Stargazing

I have camped a lot - in tents, a tent trailer, and trailers - but I've never actually slept under the stars...until last night. In my backyard. With my girlie. On the trampoline. ♥ ♥ ♥

(Wish Derek and Will would have joined us!)

F-Bomb

This morning Will used the toilet in our ensuite. There's no stepstool in our bathroom, so I told him to go wash his hands in the other bathroom. A minute later Mia (who is big on being a tattletale) showed up.

Mia: Mom, Will said "F*cking towel."

I'm not sure what prompted his cursing, perhaps trouble hanging the towel back up.

Me: Will, did you say "F*cking towel?"
Will: No.

Me: Will...did you say that?
Will: Nope.

Me: Okay...you're not in trouble, but did you say it.
Will: Yes.

Me: F*cking is a bad word. I don't want you to use that word again.
Will: How come Daddy gets to say it?

Phew! He didn't get it from me!

Another first...first permanent hair color!

Time for long overdue haircuts for the kids today. Mia asked to color her hair...she's been dying (no pun intended...really) to color her hair since I colored mine a month or more ago. It was a bit of a toss up between pink and purple but when our hairdresser said the pink would fade faster/purple would last longer, she chose purple. That was the easy bit. Convincing her that only coloring chunks of it was better than coloring all of it was the hard part...really - how would you grow that out?

Here she is after the cut and color, having her hair dried:

And later on, where you can see the streaks better.

Racing - It's in your blood

Whether it's racing on the PC, watching it on TV or travelling to see races whereever you can, i.e., the Edmonton Indy, it's in your blood and you take it any way you can get it. A couple of weeks before the Edmonton Indy, Dad was getting his fix by racing go-karts at the Allen Berg Racing School in Calgary. This is the same outfit that provided my open wheel fix last September. Too much fun; I can hardly wait until Will is old enough...this just might be the sport of choice (my choice) for him :-)

What's fast, loud and a little wet?

The Edmonton Indy of course!!

This weekend we packed up the trailer, hauled it up to Edmonton, parked it at the Rainbow Valley campground and made good on plans to see some of the Edmonton Indy. On Saturday, Dad and Will made this their mission while Mom and Mia visited with Grandma and Grandpa.

I think Will may be hooked.  Next year the plan is to camp right at the track :-)

Watermelon

Will: I'm hungry!
Will is always hungry. It's the first thing he announces every morning and what he says most throughout the day. Just before dinner today, he asked for a snack. I (Erin) hauled a huge watermelon off the counter and offered it to him.

Will (frowning): That's too big.

I cut it in half. Not wedges, just in half. Each half is probably still at least five pounds.

Me: How's that? Better?
Will (smiling): Yes! Can you carry it to the table for me?

He sits down and I set it in front of him. I cannot wait to see where this will go. Will he scoop it out with a spoon? Will he ask me to cut it into smaller pieces? Will he just dig into it?

I reallly think he's going to realize it should be cut into wedges.

But no. He just starts chomping.

And here he is in action:

But wait, he's not finished...

Summer Vacation 2012

Well, this year's big summer holiday has come and gone and way too quickly I might add.  This year we started our holiday with a couple of nights in Radium Hot Springs at the Canyon Campground. From there we travelled down into the States in the Coeur D'Alene area at a state park called Farragut Campground, and from there we went east into Montana in the Flathead Lake region to finish things up. We left June 30th and returned home on July 12th.  Despite a couple of wet days at the beginning, the weather was perfect for the duration.

Take a look below for a sampling of some of the pictures we took. Click the pics to see full size images.
